Sweden: Göteborg Fook Fair – Guest of Honor 2026

Québec will be the guest of honor at the Göteborg Book Fair, the Nordic region’s biggest cultural event and one of Europe’s most important book fairs, with over 80,000 visitors, more than 800 exhibitors and 300 seminars, in 2026! The announcement was made by Mathieu Lacombe, Minister of Culture and Communications, at the inauguration of the Salon du livre de l’Outaouais in February 2024, in the presence of Frida Edman, General Manager of the Fair, Oskar Ekström, Director of Programming, and representatives of the Swedish Embassy in Canada. ANEL and its Québec Édition committee are proud to be leading this major project.

In preparation for this important meeting between two Nordic cultures, Québec Édition will be offering activities and support to Quebec publishers interested in developing rights sales in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries. For further information, please contact Sébastien Lefebvre.

Upcoming activities for the swedish market


Preparations for Quebec’s Guest of honour invitation at the Göteborg Book Fair in 2026 are continuing in 2025 with a mission to welcome Swedish and Scandinavian publishers of all kinds on the sidelines of the Salon international du livre de Québec (SILQ) from April 10 to 15. Around ten guests will be visiting Quebec City and Montreal to learn about the SILQ, hold business meetings and visit publishing houses, bookshops and libraries.

Past activities

A delegation of Swedish publishers was invited to take part in the fellowship program Rendez-vous from November 25 to 29 2024.

The Göteborg Book Fair 2024 was held from September 26 to 29 2024. The aim of the mission was to continue the planning of the Guest of Honor invitation in 2026, to meet with Swedish publishers and other book professionals. Publishing houses that took part in the mission: Groupe d’édition la courte échelle (Fellowship of the Swedish Arts Council), Les 400 coups (Fellowship of the Swedish Arts Council), L’instant même, Prise de parole. The Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and the Délégation générale du Québec à Londres have also organised a parallel mission with Quebec City organisations dedicated to books, including the Salon international du livre de Québec, the Institut canadien de Québec, Québec BD and Rizhome. Both cities have UNESCO City of Literature status.

Publisher mission to Stockholm, May 20-24, 2024

In preparation for Quebec’s appearance at the Göteborg Book Fair in 2026, publishers and a group of translators were on a mission to Stockholm to meet with their Swedish counterparts. Here are the publishing houses that took part:
